bullet Cumberland Point COE campground
bullet

Memorial day 2013. Our very first trip without Abbey since she was born. She had gone on another trip with her grandparents and missed this one with us. We went to Cumberland Point on the north side of Lake Cumberland and stayed for 3 days. This campground had some very nice and some very bad features to it. The entire campground is on a VERY steep hill and while the sites are level, getting backed in from the road is a major chore. It was really difficult trying to back the trailer up the hill into the site and there was a really deep ditch on the other side of the road which limited how sharp you could turn to get into the site. Once we got in and setup, I found the place to be really clean and kept up. The views in every direction were awesome. We were up kind of high and could see out over the lake rather well. We enjoyed ourselves for the entire trip just watching the boats on the water, doing a little walking, and just sitting around. When it came time to leave, we found that the turn around loop at the bottom of the hill is much too small for most trailers and had me really worried. We managed to get turn around with only inches to spare and then headed to the dump station as the sites are water and electric only. The dump station ended up being on the wrong side of the road which means there is no way to dump your tanks unless you block a lane of oncoming traffic that's exiting the boat ramp. Even though I enjoyed the place while we were there, the access in and out will probably prevent me from going back.

bullet Trace Branch COE Campground
bullet We went to Trace Branch campground in May of 2014. This place is like the unknown campground out in the middle of nowhere. It sits on the shore of Buckhorn lake, But there is NO easy access to the campground. We traveled about 10 or 12 miles of single lane road to get there. Some blacktop, some gravel. Lots of sharp curves with steep drop offs right beside you. That said, once we got there, the campground was your typical COE camp with blacktop sites and fairly easy access to move around. We had a site just about 12 feet from the edge of the lake and we had a pretty good time there. I'm not sure Abbey had a very good time though as there is no cell service or WiFi available there.
