Labor Day of 2011 took us to Walnut Point State Park in Illinois for a family reunion. The rest of the family were staying in hotels and we chose this park solely based on it's location. While we found the park to be nice and clean, it is surrounded by nothing but corn fields for miles and miles in every direction. You can actually see the park from quite some distance away as it is the only piece of wooded land within an hours drive. We got out and did some hiking and fishing around the small lake as Abbey was quite insistent that she try her luck with her pole. She didn't catch anything, but it was interesting seeing the locals out fishing. We did hit the little concession stand for some drinks and I was quite disappointed to find there were no refrigerator magnets or stickers or anything of the sort to be had. If we were back in the area for some reason, I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
